From the 1987 Sonor catalog:
"The Signature Shell
The deep 12-ply shells are the core of the Signature sound. Due to this careful construction, every shell has a high flectional strength. Signature drums have newly designed extra deep shells, ensuring a perfectly balanced sound volume and projection.
The Signature Sound
The construction of the Signature Series drum shells is different that that of conventional drums. The 12-ply shells are formed tension free from selected woods. Tension free means that the single plies for a solid sound unity, thus allowing the drum head an optimum of vibration. All signature Series drums are available in two versions, giving the drummer a choice of two Signature sounds: Heavy or Lite. The Heavy shell made of beech with a thickness of 12mm produces a mellow and dry sound. The Lite shell, made of birch and only 7mm thick, has a sound more responsive and direct. The special dimension of the Lite shells ensure a more brilliant and transparent sound quality.
The Signature Finish
The inner and outer plies of a drum also have an influence on the sound. Because of their special structure and their outstanding acoustic properties, we chose African Bubinga and Indonesian Makassar Ebony. Firmly joined to the basic plies, they contribute to the balanced sound of the Signature Series."

Condition
Brand New
Brand New items are sold by an authorized dealer or original builder and include all original packaging. Products listed by authorized dealers that are unopened, new in box and are covered under the manufacturer’s original limited warranty.
B-Stock
Items that were opened and returned, have a cosmetic imperfection or were used as demo units in a shop. Many B-Stock items come with a limited manufacturer’s warranty.
Mint (Used)
Mint condition items are completely blemish-free and have not been modified in any way. If there are any blemishes and/or modifications, the item needs to be listed as a condition less than mint.
Excellent (Used)
Excellent items are almost entirely free from blemishes and other visual defects and have been played or used with the utmost care. When an item has been used, but only has minor cosmetic defects, this can be considered Excellent. Minor surface level scratches, such as fingerprints or stick marks from regular use, would qualify.
Very Good (Used)
Very Good describes items with more cosmetic imperfections than Excellent, but are still in great condition overall. There may be some scratches, finish dings, slight keyholing or light pitting, but nothing that affects the playability or function of the gear.
Good (Used)
Good condition includes items that are in fine working order, but have significant cosmetic imperfections. A cymbal with substantial fleabites, or an old snare drum with some surface rust on the lugs would be classified as Good. Items with dents, or corrosion qualify as Good as long as they are still playable and fully functional.
Fair (Used)
