At around 100 years old, this mahogany Ludwig snare drum has a round, wet "splat", and chunky attack. It has 6 floating, single-tension thumb rods, wood hoops, and gut wires. The snare strainer is fixed style tension adjustable. It seems that the original batter head has been moved to the snare side (one small tear), with an Earthtone on the batter side. This snare has certainly seen its share of use and life, but functions properly and is a wonderful drum for an alternate sound in the studio, orchestra pit, or traditional jazz setting.

From the 1927 Ludwig catalog:

"A drum for every occasion is our motto. Here is one for small combinations, for dance orchestras, in the home or school. It is inexpensive, yet contains the best materials and the same care is used in the assembly that is applied to our best models. It is constructed on more economical lines to satisfy the demands of the small orchestra drummer, student or beginner at a moderate outlay.

The heads are carefully selected, properly matched and tested so that this drum is very snappy, easy to play and will give genuine satisfaction. Regularly furnished in mahogany shell, natural maple finish counter hoops, thumb-screw rods, nickel plated, patented snare throw-off and strainer, equipped with silk-wire snares. Made with maple shell optional."
