Gretsch 6.5x14" Broadkaster Orchestra Snare Drum - 1940s WMP
Gretsch 6.5x14" Broadkaster Orchestra Snare Drum - 1940s WMP
This is a 1942 Gretsch Broadkaster Orchestra model snare drum. Eight "rocket" lugs, first-generation die-cast hoops, three-ply shell with reinforcing hoops, and replacement Rogers snare wires. The snare throw-off is missing the upper arm, and engages with some difficulty, so at the moment the snare tension is set—though this can be remedied with a replacement throw, or possibly some rehabilitation of the existing original one. Condition is really quite good for an 83-year-old instrument, with moderate pitting on the chrome, and aging on the white marine pearl wrap.
This drum's rich tone, blooming body, and perfectly-timed decay will have you reaching for it often in the studio, and will inspire simplicity and intentionality in your playing. You might even find yourself falling in love.
From the 1941 Gretsch catalog:
"Put this superb-modern drum through its paces! Test it as you will—for ease of playing, for snap and brilliance of tone, for delicacy and variety of effects, for sparkling beauty of appearance—and it rings the bell!
As befits an instrument intended for daily service and absolute dependability over years of professional use, solid strength is designed and built right into every "BROADKASTER". All adjustments of snare control and head tension are made with ease and accuracy. The new, modernistic brackets embody a newly designed self-aligning feature that definitely increases speed and ease of tensioning—eliminates binding.

Condition
Brand New
Brand New items are sold by an authorized dealer or original builder and include all original packaging. Products listed by authorized dealers that are unopened, new in box and are covered under the manufacturer’s original limited warranty.
B-Stock
Items that were opened and returned, have a cosmetic imperfection or were used as demo units in a shop. Many B-Stock items come with a limited manufacturer’s warranty.
Mint (Used)
Mint condition items are completely blemish-free and have not been modified in any way. If there are any blemishes and/or modifications, the item needs to be listed as a condition less than mint.
Excellent (Used)
Excellent items are almost entirely free from blemishes and other visual defects and have been played or used with the utmost care. When an item has been used, but only has minor cosmetic defects, this can be considered Excellent. Minor surface level scratches, such as fingerprints or stick marks from regular use, would qualify.
Very Good (Used)
Very Good describes items with more cosmetic imperfections than Excellent, but are still in great condition overall. There may be some scratches, finish dings, slight keyholing or light pitting, but nothing that affects the playability or function of the gear.
Good (Used)
Good condition includes items that are in fine working order, but have significant cosmetic imperfections. A cymbal with substantial fleabites, or an old snare drum with some surface rust on the lugs would be classified as Good. Items with dents, or corrosion qualify as Good as long as they are still playable and fully functional.
Fair (Used)
Fair condition items have various imperfections that impact the function of the item. Fair items aren’t broken, but have some minor functional issues. Examples of items in Fair condition are cymbals with repaired cracks, or a playable drum kit with several extra holes.
Poor (Used)
Poor condition items have clear functional problems that will generally require repair. Examples of items in Poor condition include a snare drum with broken lugs, a cymbal with substantial un-repaired cracks, or a drum kit stripped of its finish and missing hoops or other hardware.
