As Noble & Cooley’s first product in the professional drum arena, the SS Classic solidified our reputation as the leading manufacturer and original maker of The World’s Best Drums. These snare drums were the first steam-bent, solid shell drums of the modern era. They have been used on countless recordings since their introduction in the early 1980s and continue to be the instruments of choice by professional players today.
SOLID SHELL
1/4" solid rock maple (or other domestic hardwood) is hand-picked for grain consistency and run through a steam bending process dating back to the Civil War. Our single ply shells vibrate more freely than the multi-ply shells commonly used, giving our SS classic its warmth and legendary bite.
SNARE SYSTEM
Our snare system includes the snares, the throw-off, and the snare beds, and comes with Noble & Cooley patented Cam Action snare wires designed to allow tight tensioning without choking the bottom. These vibrate beautifully at medium and loose tensions, and can be tuned up or down as needed. Our brass throw-off is smooth and simple, allowing the snare wires to be engaged or disengaged easily.
NODAL POINT LUG MOUNTING
Nodal Point technology is Noble & Cooley’s very own patent. By placing the lug post at the nodal point of the shell’s natural wavelength, we ensure that the intrinsic tone-creating vibration is unaffected by the mass of the lug. Instead of all drumhead sound, the shell itself adds to the ultimate tone of the drum.
BEARING EDGE
The bearing edge is the point of contact between the shell and the drumhead. The accuracy of this bearing edge determines the drums tone and tunability. Our edges are lathed to create maximum resonance and projection. True to 1/10,000th of an inch, our artfully customized drums have hand cut bearing edges that are checked twice on a machinist's grade granite flat, ensuring consistent pitch.

Brand New

B-Stock
Items that were opened and returned, have a cosmetic imperfection or were used as demo units in a shop. Many B-Stock items come with a limited manufacturer’s warranty.
Mint (Used)
Mint condition items are completely blemish-free and have not been modified in any way. If there are any blemishes and/or modifications, the item needs to be listed as a condition less than mint.
Excellent (Used)
Excellent items are almost entirely free from blemishes and other visual defects and have been played or used with the utmost care. When an item has been used, but only has minor cosmetic defects, this can be considered Excellent. Minor surface level scratches, such as fingerprints or stick marks from regular use, would qualify.
Very Good (Used)
Very Good describes items with more cosmetic imperfections than Excellent, but are still in great condition overall. There may be some scratches, finish dings, slight keyholing or light pitting, but nothing that affects the playability or function of the gear.
Good (Used)
Good condition includes items that are in fine working order, but have significant cosmetic imperfections. A cymbal with substantial fleabites, or an old snare drum with some surface rust on the lugs would be classified as Good. Items with dents, or corrosion qualify as Good as long as they are still playable and fully functional.
Fair (Used)
Fair condition items have various imperfections that impact the function of the item. Fair items aren’t broken, but have some minor functional issues. Examples of items in Fair condition are cymbals with repaired cracks, or a playable drum kit with several extra holes.
Poor (Used)
Poor condition items have clear functional problems that will generally require repair. Examples of items in Poor condition include a snare drum with broken lugs, a cymbal with substantial un-repaired cracks, or a drum kit stripped of its finish and missing hoops or other hardware.
