Deagan Round Top Orchestra Bells No. 1123
Deagan Round Top Orchestra Bells No. 1123
"In folding case, open, ready to play. Length of case. 26 inches. Roundtop bars. 1x7/16" in. 2½ Octaves, G to C Chromatic, 30...Bars"
This set of Deagan Orchestra Bells is likely right around 100 years old. The bars show light-moderate pitting and surface rust. The round top design in well known for its pure, clean, well blended sound and these instruments are among the most used and coveted of the vintage glockenspiels. The folding design was developed to make the instrument more easily portable, and its clever, though the relative positioning of the upper and lower sets of bars may require just a bit of adjustment for the player more at ease with traditional tiered concert bells. Overall case dimensions (closed) are 26"x13"x4".
The case seems to be original, and has been reinforced with metal brackets at several joints. The lath that holds the upper row of bars in place for storage is a bit loose and so the folding-up of the set can be a bit fussy, but does work, and the tightness of this feature could also be adjusted without a terrible amount of trouble. A new handle was installed as some point, and all the latches and hinges work as intended.
This is a great opportunity to add a set of one of the most recorded bells in history to your personal toolroom.
